Derryal Russell Strickland, aged 80, went home to be with The Lord on August 11, 2023, surrounded by his loving family in Jacksonville, Florida. Born on February 19, 1943, in Savannah, Georgia, Derryal was the beloved child of Russell Alex Strickland and Ruby Sikes. He completed his education at Andrew Jackson High School, graduating in 1961.
Following his graduation, Derryal proudly served in the Army National Guard, showcasing his dedication to his country. In 1965, he embarked on a lifelong journey with his soulmate, Ovidette "Vetta" Cobb, exchanging vows that would span 58 cherished years.
Derryal's professional journey led him to a successful 43-year career in the brokerage field, ultimately retiring from Advantage Sales & Marketing. Throughout his life, he found joy in various pursuits, including golf, music, watching football, and spending quality time with beloved family and friends. An ardent dog lover, he found solace and companionship in the presence of the family's four-legged members.
In addition to his professional and familial pursuits, Derryal's passions extended to the great outdoors. He held a deep appreciation for cabins and took great passion in maintaining his lawn and landscape. Derryal's spiritual commitment was evident through his role as a deacon at Main Street Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Florida, where he touched the lives of many with his unwavering faith and compassion.
A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Derryal's love and care knew no bounds. He leaves behind his adoring wife, Vetta Strickland, along with his daughters, Laura Strickland Page (Gary) and Denise Strickland Spinning (Jason), as well as his son, Derryal Duane Strickland (Missy). His legacy continues through his four cherished grandchildren: Bailey Page, Emily Spinning, Brandon Page, and Addison Spinning, all residing in Jacksonville, Florida.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during the visitation on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, at the Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Chapel located at 4801 San Jose Boulevard, Jacksonville, Florida, 32207. A heartfelt funeral service will take place on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at 1:00 pm at the same location, followed by interment in the serene Oaklawn Cemetery.
