Dale Lee Taylor, age 80, of Jacksonville, Florida passed away peacefully, in his home, on Sunday, February 26, 2023. Born May 20th 1942 in Kansas City, Missouri, to Margaret Helen Sawyer and Lawrence Stucker (later adopted by Joseph Taylor), he grew up in Kansas City, Kansas with his three siblings: Larry, Ken and Peggy. Dale graduated in 1960 from Wyandotte High School in Kansas City, Kansas and received an Associate Degree in Business Management from Tidewater Community College.
Dale married his wife, Naomi, in 1967 in Naha City, Okinawa, Japan and went on to have three children: Ken, Linda and Rick. He is survived by his wife Naomi; their three children and spouses; nine grandchildren: Niko, Marissa, Layla, Naomi, Marquito, Nathan, Alexander, Sebastian, Maria; four great grandchildren: Aria, Dexter, Damon, Luca; three siblings: Larry, Ken, Peggy; loving cousins, nieces and nephews in the Kansas City area; and his beloved dog Pako, who stayed by his side to the very end.
Dale was in the United States Navy from 1961-1988 as a Navy Corpsman. He served with the 3rd Marine Division, and did two tours in the Vietnam War while stationed in Okinawa Japan. There, he met the love of his life, Naomi. He continued to serve in the Navy for many years and was stationed in Virginia, Okinawa, Japan and his final duty station in Great Lakes, Illinois. Dale retired as a Senior Chief Petty Officer after 28 years of service, and received: The National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Support Medal, Gallantry Cross, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Numerous Air medals, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Navy Unit Commendation, Presidential Unit Citation and Fleet Marine Force ribbon, 4th Sea.
After the Navy, Dale worked at Baptist Medical Center and then the Duval County School system for about 10 years and retired in 2005.
Dale was a proud military veteran, husband, father, and grandfather who loved spending time with his wife, kids and grandkids. He loved to make everyone smile and laugh and always wanted to be surrounded by family. He was a very loving and giving soul who will be missed tremendously and remembered by the many lives he touched. He leaves behind beautiful memories and a lasting impression with all of his loved ones.
A graveside service for Dale will be held Friday, March 24, 2023 from 12:30 PM to 1:00 PM at Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville, FL 32218.
