CHARLES NORMAN SUTTLES went home to be with the Lord on March 15, 2017 following a sudden illness. He was born in Jacksonville, FL on April 28, 1931 to Woodfin George Suttles, Sr. and Fannie Kate Hall Suttles.
Charles was predeceased in death by his parents, his loving wife, Anna Jean Redd Suttles and his brother Woodfin George Suttles, Jr.
He is survived by his son, George Suttles (Suzanne); daughter, Kay Kay Suttles Akins (Roy); three grandchildren, Tyler Akins (Allison), Harrison Akins, Justin Suttles; step grandson, Matthew Smith. Two great grand children, Oakley Jean Akins, Crosby Tyler Akins; step great grandson Brady McVay.
Charles was a lifelong member of Murray Hill Baptist Church where he served in many capacities including Chairman of the Deacons and was a Sunday School Teacher for over 30 years.
He graduated from Bolles Military Academy in 1949 where he was a Captain and Company Commander prior to attending Stetson University. Charles then joined the design firm of W. G. Suttles, Inc. located on Riverside Ave. where he was President from 1966 until the present. His numerous professional accomplishments included the interior design of many financial, healthcare and college institutions, executive offices, and homes throughout the southeast. Charles was admitted to Professional membership in National Society of Interior Designers in 1960 and later the American Society of Interior Designers. He was recorded in Who’s Who in Interior Design.
Charles was a retired Colonel in the United States Army Reserves and a life member of the Reserve Officers Association.
His community involvement included the Chamber of Commerce, Shriners Club, Meninak Club, Boy Scouts of America and YMCA-Century Club.
Visitation will be held at Hardage-Giddens Town & Country Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd., Jacksonville, FL on Thursday, March 23, 2017; 6-8pm.
Funeral services will be held at 11am on March 24, 2017 at Murray Hill Baptist Church , 4300 Post St. , Jacksonville , FL 32205. Interment to follow at Riverside Memorial Park , 7242 Normandy Blvd. , Jacksonville , FL.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Murray Hill Baptist Church.
