Born in New York, NY on January 16, 1951, he was raised in Oneonta, New York. He graduated from Oneonta Senior High School in 1969 and ultimately found what was his life’s calling when he joined the Oneonta Police Department in 1974, where he served until 1997, retiring as the Detective Sergeant.
He left Oneonta to pursue his dream of living and working in Florida and took a job in 1997 as an investigator with the Florida Attorney General’s Office in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. In 2000, he joined the Florida Department of Law Enforcement as a Special Agent, serving in Fort Lauderdale and then in Sarasota until his retirement in December 2020. Upon retirement, he moved to Jacksonville to spend his last years with his grandchildren.
Carl was an avid mountain biker and skier in his younger years and continued to swim and bicycle after moving to Florida. He loved to camp and travelled the US in an RV for many summers. He was an avid auto racing fan and attended any motorsport event he could get to. He was a proud graduate of the FBI National Academy 160th Session. Perhaps of most significance to him, he was a dedicated grandfather.
Carl is predeceased by his mother Dorothy, his father Carl and his brother Tom. He is survived by his sisters Marilyn Petkov, Dorothy Shedlock, Maggie Sands and Patricia Shene, his brother Robert, his son and daughter-in-law Andrew and Denise, his two grandchildren, Madeline and Ryan and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
