Beverly Barlow Griffith, age 67, passed away peacefully, after a long battle with ovarian cancer, on Thursday, January 11, 2018, at Community Hospice McGraw Center in Jacksonville, Florida. Beverly was born on January 16, 1950, in Knoxville, Tennessee, to Harry and Azelia Barlow. In 1957, they moved to Jacksonville, where they resided the rest of their lives. She graduated with honors in 1968 from Ribault High School and played the violin in the orchestra throughout her school years. She focused on secretarial studies throughout high school and was later employed by several law firms in Jacksonville, most recently, Smith, Hulsey, and Busey. Beverly continued playing the violin and in 1981, began playing as one of the founding members of the Westside Baptist Church orchestra. She continued as a faithful member for the next fifteen years. She truly cared for her family and friends and always put others before herself. She exhibited a sweet spirit for anyone who was around her and will be greatly missed. She is survived by her fiancé, Ronald Steppe; her two daughters, Kimberly (Jonathan) McCollum and Kelly Purnell; her four grandchildren, Isla McCollum, Kirsten Smith, Elaina and Eian Vaupel; her sister, Belinda (Tom) Griffin, and many loving cousins. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 20th at 1:00 p.m. at Hardage-Giddens Town & Country Funeral Home on Normandy Blvd. Donations can be made to the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition.
