Betty Jane Keene

Betty Jane Keene, passed on to Heaven to be with her Lord and beloved husband on June 15, 2019 at the age of 87. Betty was born in 1932, in the county of Westmoreland, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of the late Daniel Earl Sleasman and Cora Cane Sleasman. After relocating to Jacksonville, Florida, Betty met the gentleman that would become her husband for 59 years, Bernard C. Keene. To whom she referred, “My Bern”.

Betty enjoyed living life with Bern and spending time with family fishing as well as gardening. She also loved her furry companion, Peanut, spending time with her friends making intricate crafts out of beads, shopping at thrift stores followed by a good taco from Taco Bell. She was a member of Biltmore Baptist Church and always had a wonderful smile.

Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Bernard C. Keene; father, Daniel Earl Sleasman; mother, Cora Cane Sleasman; son, James Edward Barkley and sister, Alberta. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Wilma Barkley of Pennsylvania; 3 grandsons, 11 great-grandchildren, 13 great-great-grandchildren and step-daughter, Tamra Dawn Wallace (Kenneth) of Virginia.

Friends will be received on Sunday, June 23, 2019 at 1:00 pm. Service will begin at 2:00 pm at Hardage-Giddens Riverside Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32205 with burial following the service at Riverside Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, it is requested memorial gifts be made to Biltmore Baptist Church, 3525 Norman E. Thagard Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32254.
