Betty Horne passed away on January 3, 2024 in Jacksonville, Florida, at the age of 97. She was born on September 29, 1926 in Waycross, Georgia to Noah and Trudie Mae Tanner. Betty was preceded in death by her husband Howard Horne and her brother Jim Tanner and two sisters Martha Gaddis and Jackie McCormick
Betty is survived by her sister Charlotte Lamb and her brother Wally Tanner and her three sons, David H. Horne, Jr, Bill Horne and Jim Horne (Lori), eight grandchildren; Justin Horne (Denise), Dr.Jacquelyn Cotton (Travis), Jordan Salmon (Sam), Ashley Lowell (Josh), Laura Kersten (Kody), John David Horne, Katherine Reynolds (Jake) and Alexandra Horne Gulcan (Berkay) and eleven great grandchildren.
She attended Robert E Lee High School and was a lifelong member of Woodstock Park Baptist Church and Park Lane Baptist Church. She married Howard Horne in 1945 who she met at church after he returned from serving in World War II. They were married for 56 years before he passed away in 2001.
She was the epitome of a southern belle - beautiful, sweet, kind, charitable and devoted to her faith and family. She was the matriarch of the Horne clan and an inspiration to anyone who was blessed to know her. Her legacy lives on in the lives of her sons, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at Park Lane Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Florida on Friday January 12, 2024 at 11:00am, 1480 Lakeshore Blvd, Jacksonville, Florida 32205.
