Barbara C. Wilkins, born in North Arlington, New Jersey, on November 16, 1916, passed peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, December 2, 2015. She grew up in New Jersey and South Florida, moving to Jacksonville in 1964 and retired from Bell South in 1977 as North Florida Area Traffic Manager after 34 years of service. Barbara was active in Telephone Pioneers, serving as President of the Jacksonville Downtown Chapter. She was a member of Soroptimist International, past President of the Ft. Lauderdale and Jacksonville Clubs and serving as Governor of the Southern Region from 1970 to 1972. She was a member of the Jacksonville Orchid Society, the Tuckaleechee Garden Club in Townsend, Tennessee, the Tuckaleechee United Methodist Church and associate member of Lakewood United Methodist Church in Jacksonville.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Daisy Keene Crighton; her sister, Dorothy Crighton; husbands, Elliott Melville Thrall, and Duncan Carlisle Wilkins; and grandson, Jack Clements. Survivors include her daughter, Joy Ramirez of Dunwoody, Georgia; son, Mike Wilkins (Ginger) of Jacksonville; grandchildren, Kathy Day (Mike) of Jacksonville, Debbi Beer (Doug) of Belfast, Tennessee, Kim Gonzalez (David) of Ventura, California, and Susan Pavloff (Tom) of Atlanta, Georgia; great-grandchildren, David Day, Joshua Gonzalez, Amanda Pavloff, and Reagan Pavloff.
A Visitation will be at 1:00pm on Friday, December 11, 2015, followed at 2:00pm by a Funeral Service at The Oaklawn Chapel, 4801 San Jose Blvd., Jacksonville, with Rev. Grant Siegfried, officiating.
