A visitation for Ted will be held Friday, June 10, 2022 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Chapel, 4801 SAN JOSE BLVD, JACKSONVILLE, FL 32207.
Ted was born in Jacksonville, FL on September 27, 1929 to Antonio Ted Alvarez, Sr and Annie Laurie Trantham Alvarez. He graduated from Andrew Jackson High School in 1948 and joined the Army Air Corps. After leaving the Air Force, Ted attended the University of Florida where he joined Gator Nation.
During his early years, he was a member of the Garden City Methodist Church where he served as Sunday School Superintendent and secretary of the official board. Later, he and his wife Virginia became members at Christian Family Chapel.
In 1966, Ted was elected to the Florida House of Representatives serving on many committees, agriculture being his favorite. He introduced legislation to establish the Veterinary School at the University of Florida. He also served on the Constitutional Revision Committee, cast the deciding vote to consolidate the City of Jacksonville and secured land for both the North Campus of Florida State College at Jacksonville and the University of North Florida.
Ted and his brothers co-owned Holly Hill Dairy where he served as Sec-Treas and headed up the retail sales department. Holly Hill Dairy manufactured and bottled the first milk that was sold in plastic jugs in the Jacksonville area. The Alvarez Family farm property became part of the International Airport and International Tradeport.
Ted was a Real Estate Broker for many years and in his later years became interested in alternative and complimentary medicine and helped many people overcome maladies without surgery or the use of debilitating medications.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Virginia Perry Alvarez. He left behind three grown children Evelyn Scott (Doug), LuAnn VanPelt (Rodney) and Steve Alvarez (Lisa) all of Jacksonville. He had seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
