On April 3rd, Annie F. Williams, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away at the age of 99. She was born in Union, South Carolina, and moved to Charlotte, North Carolina after high school to attend higher education and was quickly recruited to work for Southern Bell Telephone Company. She moved to Jacksonville while in her 20's and was introduced to her husband to be, R.M. Williams, by her coworker and good friend, R.M.'s sister, Virginia. Annie worked as a housewife raising three children, Bobby,(Dian), Tommy (Eleonora) and Janice Williams Rice (Bill). She is survived by her three children, five grandchildren Josh Williams, Justin Williams, Daniel Williams, Brooke Rice, Emily Rice and eleven great grandchildren. Annie is also survived by her sister, Sarah Gregory.
Annie was a long-time member of the Deermeadows Baptist Church and enjoyed the Sunday Services and Bible Study. She was also a long-time member of the Mandarin Garden Club. She loved the garden club and said the best thing about being a member was meeting and being with people who shared the same interest. She loved flower arranging and won Best in Show at least once. She served as Chaplin and was named a Life Member in 1985. Annie was an avid southern cook, and the covered dishes that she shared with the garden club were always loved and the recipes were asked for often.
Annie was known for her sense of humor, and once said: "I hoped to learn to garden and grow flowers from the garden club but never did - I never could grow flowers! it was not the club's fault, ha ha". Well at least it did transcend into the family as her son Tommy and his family now run Williams Plant Nursery.
