Amy was born on January 28, 1936 in Friendship, Maryland, an apt birth town for someone who showed kindness to all she met. She graduated from Marshall University with a Bachelors of Education and, while there, met her first husband, Raymond Duncan (2018), who later attended graduate school at the University of Florida. Living in Gainesville led to Amy becoming a lifelong loyal Gator fan. She attended almost every home football game starting in 1986 when her daughter attended UF until her health prevented it. She was present at the Sugar Bowl for the Gators’ first-ever national football championship in 1996. Amy was an elementary school teacher at Love Grove and Kings Trail where she touched many lives. Amy married Ralph Thompson (2001) in 1996 enjoying travels with him that included two memorable trips to Hawaii. She was a member of Southside United Methodist Church for more than 40 years.
Amy is survived by her son Bryan (Cathy), her daughter Kathryn, eight grandchildren (Matthew, Theresa, Emma, Elise, Tommy, Maggie, Cecelia, and Isabella), her brother Paul Thomasson, and her sister Audrey Jane Shadburn. Amy’s family thanks Arden Courts of Tampa and Lifepath Hospice for their amazing care.
