Beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend Allison John Pierce Peck passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 21, 2018, surrounded by family and friends, at age 68. He was born on March 18, 1949, in Scotia, NY, to the late Allison and Marlene (Mendoza) Peck. He was known as “Butch” to family and friends, a nickname given to him by his grandfather when he was only four months old.
Butch is survived by his wife Charlotte and their daughter Caroline. He also leaves behind his former spouse Elaine and their children Heather (Chris) Barton and Brandon (Candis) Peck. Additional family include Butch’s grandchildren: Jaden Barton and Landon Barton; brothers- and sisters-in law: Frank and Ellen Collison, Michael Collison, Tim and Kathy Collison, Jane Collison, Ed Collison, John Collison, Cathy Harrington, Nancy Collison, Larry Collison, Stephen and Sarah Collison; nieces and nephews: Troy Collison, Martin Collison, Jason Harrington, Amanda Harrington, Marinna Collison, Julia Collison, and Lillian Collison.
Butch’s family moved to Jacksonville, FL, when he was 11 years old. He graduated from Englewood High School, class of 1967, and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in Business Management at the University of Central Florida.
The majority of Butch’s career was spent in the mortgage banking industry. At Stockton, Whatley, Davin & Company, he led the company’s efforts to automate the collection and processing of loan data. He was very skilled at being able to review a process and see where improvements to efficiency could be made. He earned a Green Belt in Six Sigma before he retired from JP Morgan Chase Bank in 2012.
Butch’s hobbies included fishing and watching the Florida Gators and Jacksonville Jaguars play football. Music played an important role in Butch’s life. He taught himself to play guitar when he was a teenager. After his retirement, Butch formed a band with his best friend from childhood, Freddie Rowland. They were known as “Double Trouble” and performed locally. Butch was also known affectionately as “The Music Man” to the seniors at Almost Home DayBreak where he performed weekly. Butch was an active parishioner at St. Joseph Catholic Church where he coordinated the music tent at the fall festival. He combined his love of music with his love for his children and grandchildren, inspiring them to become musicians as well.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 11757 Old St Augustine Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32258. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. with Prayers of Remembrance at 10:00 a.m. with Father Philip Timlin as Celebrant, followed by interment in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. A reception will follow after the interment in the Cody Center.
