Funeral Services for Alfred John Williams will be held cryptside at Greenlawn Cemetery on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. Born Jan. 7, 1928 to Vera Addison and James Francis Williams in Jacksonville he was reared in the Baptist faith. He joined the Merchant Marines in 1944 during WWII and served in the Army as a paratrooper in the 187 Regiment 11th Airborne until his discharge in 1949. Al worked out of IBEW local #177 for 44 years as an electrician. He lived in Jacksonville most of his life but moved with his late wife, Pat to Maryland and then to Charles Town, WV. His hobbies included fishing, gardening, reading and he had been a member of the Dixie chain Gang Square Dancing Club.
Al was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Dorothy Lee and Betty Sue Williams; brother, James (Sonny) Williams; grandson, Michael Hawn and his wife, Pat Callahan Williams to whom he was married for 30 years.
We will all miss his many stories of his days during the Depression and The War. He is survived by his brother, Ralph Leroy Williams; his sister, Juanita Smatz; five children: Tina Cooksey (Mitch), Wayne Beck (Kim), Mark Beck (Traci), Gayla Michele Hawn (Raymond) and Marinett Harvey (Troy); his grandchildren: Jeffery, Melanie, Tricia, Joanna, Lauren, Kristine, Raymond, Jennifer, Daniel, Rebecca, Rebekah, Clayton and Caleb and seven great grandchildren.
