We lay to rest our loving Nanay, Zenaida (Aida) Cordero Villania Mendoza, who passed away peacefully on August 28, 2022, surrounded by her loving family at 88 years of age. Aida was born in Sampaloc Manila, Philippines on November 12, 1933, to her father, Regino Medina Villania, and Mother Flora Hernandez Cordero Villania, both preceded her in death.
A doting wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Nanay cherished her family above all else. In 1962 she and her newborn son left their home in the Philippines to accompany her husband to the United States as he served in the United States Navy. Nanay would do this several times until his retirement.
She graduated from high school and took up cosmetology as a vocational study. She finished the program but never had the opportunity to practice as she endeavored on a new life in a new land. To occupy her time while waiting for her husband to return from deployments she joined a bowling league, became an excellent seamstress, and knitted many items for her household.
Nanay’s sewing skills segued into working as a seamstress for several companies to include swimwear at one point. Retail merchandising was her last position retiring after many years of service.
Nanay and her loving husband known as Tatay enjoyed taking cruises together all over the world. They accumulated enough points they were platinum members with several cruise lines. Nanay and Tatay would even celebrate their 50th anniversary renewing their vows on one of those trips with their children and grandchildren.
Nanay’s family continued to grow and she continued to celebrate her union of 61 years with Tatay. This year she lost the love of her life. No words can describe her heartache and sorrow she felt. She is now in God’s hands and reunited with Tatay for all eternity. May she rest in peace.
Nanay is predeceased by her husband Lazaro Ignacio Mendoza; her parents, siblings and great-granddaughter. She leaves behind her sons, Adam and his wife Leta, Brandon and his wife Tina, her daughter, Melissa Coyne, and her husband Kevin. Aida’s grandchildren, Tabitha Baldwin (Chase), Brooke Rouse (Krys), Addison Mendoza (Emily), Baillie Bedford (Josh), Gage Coyne (Ashlee), Marla Myrick (Garrett), Blane Mendoza, Savannah Mendoza, and her 15 great grandchildren.
