Billy was born May 16, 1953 in Jacksonville, FL to William and Violet Dawson. Growing up in Green Field Stables, now known as Queens Harbor, he and his family ran a horse stable and motorcycle course in the late 60’s and early 70’s. Billy was known for putting on great concerts at Green Field that included many of the young artists of that time, such as Lynyrd Skynyrd and The Charlie Daniels Band.
After graduating from Fletcher High School, Billy furthered his entrepreneurship spirit with the founding of Dawson Land Development Inc. and Dawson Trucking Inc., which were responsible for most of the early developments throughout Jacksonville. Billy helped shape the very ground that Jacksonville Beach, Ponte Vedra Beach, Jacksonville East, and Mayport Naval Station stands on. Some years later he also started in the shrimping Industry in Mayport, FL. His boat “Billy’s Girl’s” is remembered to this day for having the largest single drag catch in the Mayport fishing village.
Devoted Husband, Loving Father, Cherished Grandfather, and loyal Friend, Billy will always be remembered for the landmarks he left behind.
Billy is preceded in death by his wife Cynthia, His Mother Violet, Father William B Dawson III, and Sister Jenny.
He is survived by his Sisters Pamela Dolan, Rebecca Sparks (Eddie), Laura Dawson, His Daughter Amanda Poston (John), His Sons William B Dawson V (Shawna), Jeffrey Dawson, Tyler Dawson, and His Grandchildren Jennifer Poston, Kaylee Dawson, and Emily Dawson.
