Randall, Sherwood “Randy” Lee Jr, 83, of Southside, Jacksonville passed on to eternal life on February 4th, 2022 at the Mayo Clinic after a lengthy battle with leukemia. We expect that he is currently enjoying a cup of coffee at the nearest Dunkin' in the sky with his favorite son and best friend, Bruce. The Bozos, as they often referred to each other, are back together at last.
Randy was born June 28, 1938 in Dumfries, Virginia, the 4th of 12 children of the late Sherwood Lee Sr. and Fannie Waller (Sullivan) Randall. He left school at a young age to help provide for his younger siblings. Randy joined the Navy in 1955 serving on the U.S.S. Kirkpatrick where he suffered a shoulder injury resulting in medical discharge in 1959. Shortly after leaving the Navy, Randy established Carl & Randy’s Auto Tops and Seat Covers with business partner Carlman Averback in Lynn MA. He later worked as a top salesman for York Ford in Saugus MA for many years before moving to Jacksonville with his wife in 1999, retiring fully in 2005. Randy found rewarding work in retirement as a Lay Eucharist Minister and Vice President of the Forever Young club at his church.
Randy took pleasure in watching the success of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, telling everyone that would listen (and some that would rather have not) how proud he was of them. Randy was loved by almost all that knew him, and he was willing to help anybody in any way he could. He lived his life on his own terms and never let others get in his way. His friends and family will greatly miss the constant “Hun” as his angelic wife, Marie, tried to corral him into behaving. His passions in recent years included spending time with family and friends, whooping them at cribbage, and sneaking a scratch ticket or ten when the wife wasn’t looking.
Randy is survived by his wife of nearly 27 years, Marie (Casale) (Galik) Randall of Jacksonville; daughters Linda Donahue and husband Joey "Sam" of Peabody MA and Rhonda Randall of St. Augustine; daughter-in-law Jody Randall of Burlington MA; son-in-law George Brown of St. Augustine; two step-granddaughters Shenda Brown of Quincy MA and Shannon Brown of Saugus MA; six grandsons Keith "Thomas" Randall and his partner Ian Sullivan of Winooski VT, Matthew Randall of Bennington NH, Kyle Bennett of Marblehead MA, Joe Donahue of Peabody MA, George Brown and wife Adara of St. Augustine, and Shaymus Brown of St. Augustine; three great-grandchildren "the littles" Landon and Emma Bennett of Orlando, and Bruin Brown of St. Augustine; sisters Dorothy Beer of Stafford VA, Joyce Creed of Jacksonville NC, and Kathleen Randall of Jacksonville; sister-in-law JuniKae Randall of Grand Forks ND; friends up and down the east coast; and countless [50(?), 150(?), we lost count] nieces and nephews who affectionately referred to him as “Uncle Shep”.
He was predeceased by his parents; first wife Joan (Gould) Randall; life partner Jeanette (Jalbert) Bennett; sons Bruce and Barry Randall; sisters Mary "Jean" Campbell, Betty Ann Carter, and Patsy Messinger; brothers Gerald, Charles, and Jim Randall; and two other brothers that died in infancy.
A celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, February 25th 2022, 11am at Prince of Peace Catholic Church (6320 Bennett Rd, Jacksonville). Burial with military honors will be at Jacksonville National Cemetery at 2:30pm Lane # 2 ( 4083 Lannie Road Jacksonville )
