Robert Charles Selph, age 66, died at Baptist Medical Center Beaches Tuesday, June 29, 2010 after a lifelong battle with diabetes. In 1999, he was under the care of the University of Maryland-Baltimore where he was the recipient of a kidney donated by his daughter, Kellie and a pancreas. Born April 13, 1944 in Jacksonville, FL, he lived in Jacksonville Beach and graduated from Fletcher High School. He worked as a Meter Service Supervisor for the City of Jacksonville Beach, Dept. of Electric Utilities before retiring after 34 years of service. Robert was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police with the City of Atlantic and Neptune Beach, Lodge #107 where he worked as an auxiliary Police Officer. He was a volunteer fireman with Atlantic and Neptune Beach. Robert was Emergency Coordinator, Amateur Radio Emergency Services (ARES) Beaches area. He was a Northeast Florida American Red Cross volunteer for Amateur Radio Emergency Service, past President and longstanding member of Beaches Amateur Radio Service (BARS), FCC licensed Amateur Radio Technician, and a member of the Boy Scouts of America, Sea Cadets Division.
Preceded in death by his parents, James Milton & Robbie Jane Selph, he is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Cynthia Jan Selph of Jacksonville Beach; daughter Kellie (David) Leggat of Acworth, Georgia; grandchildren, Ashlyn, Hannah, and Jacob Robert Leggat; brother, William Selph; nephews, James Selph, Sean Selph, and Greg Hood; nieces, Trisha McLaughlin and Jamee Weir; and beloved uncle and aunt Jesse & Charlotte Selph of Vero Beach, Florida.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 2nd in the Chapel of HARDAGE-GIDDENS FUNERAL HOME, 1701 Beach Blvd., with interment to follow in Mayport Cemetery.
