Raul Charles Lopez, known by those who love him as Papa, age 81, passed peacefully at his home under the care of Vitas Hospice on June 3, 2022. He spent his last days of life surrounded by family that loved and cared for him deeply.
Raul was born on December 14, 1940 in Mexico. He lived in Santa Ana, California and received his diploma from Santa Ana Senior High School. He was a veteran of the US Navy. He served with the Ashtabula County Sheriff's Department as a Deputy Sheriff.
He was married to Margaret (Peggy) Lopez on September 28, 1968 in North Kingsville, Ohio.
Raul was a chef of Ole Kings Tavern in North Kingsville, Ohio before moving to Jacksonville, FL in 1983. In Florida, he was head of maintenance at Ocean 2122 condominium and later lived in North Carolina where he worked for the Haywood County School System.
He was predeceased by his parents, his wife Peggy Lopez, his brother-in-law John Fisk, his son Edward John Lopez, and his granddaughter Alexis Mia Carlson.
Raul is survived by his children: LaNett Lopez, Kenneth (Laura) Lopez, Erik Carlson, Raul (Evelyn) Lopez II and Ramon (Liz) Lopez; his grandchildren: Crystal Lillo, Felecia Lopez, Nicholas (Liz) Lopez, Kenneth Lopez Jr., Alayna Womack, Ethan Lopez, Eva Lopez, and Ella Lopez, Ramon Lopez Jr. and Brayden Lopez; great-grandchildren: Phoenix Lopez, Liliana Lopez, and Eli Womack.
He enjoyed carpentry, photography, cooking (especially known for his spaghetti sauce and salsa) & ham radio (WD8MHT).
A celebration of life will be held at Lake Shore Park “Tourist” Pavilion in Ashtabula, Ohio on
August 28, 2022 at 2pm.
