LOOS, Kenneth Lee, 72, passed away on Friday, May 11, 2012 after a long illness while in the care of his wife and the Community Hospice Bailey Center in St. Augustine, Florida. Ken was born on May 25, 1939 in Springfield, Ohio to the late Ernest Waddell Loos and Jeanette Crist. After graduating from Catholic Central High School in 1957 (Ohio), Ken served in the United States Navy from 1957-1961 and 1963-1967.
Upon moving to Jacksonville, Florida, he attended Jones College receiving a Bachelor of Science in Management. He was a QA Inspector at Mayport Naval Station and an electrical contractor until he retired in 1997. He and his wife, Leilani Tillis Loos, moved to San Mateo, Florida. At age 55, he became a certified firefighter/first responder with the Riverside Volunteer Fire Department. He and his wife later moved to St. Augustine where they enjoyed a quiet and leisurely life since 2003.
His acting career began in the early 1980s at the University of North Florida. He performed on theatre stages in Jacksonville, the Beaches, Palatka, and St. Augustine for over 20 years garnishing several local awards. He served a number of years on the PBTS Board of Directors. He was a fine Shakespearean actor and a great comedic talent. He did a number of national and local TV commercials which include the Sea Captain for Burger King's Fish Filet; played the bartender in Faith Hill's Secret of Life music video, and Yard Sale The Movie (a local independent film). Ken's passion was acting and loved the theatre, beach bop dancing, playing poker, and was an avid beach goer.
Ken is survived by his loving wife, Leilani Tillis Loos; brother Ernest (Junita) Loos from California; his son Kenneth (Lori) Loos; his daughters Brenda (William) Hart, Celeste (William) Watkins, Jeannie (Robert) Schoonover, Maria Cecilia (Craig) Kelly; their mother, Maxine Muschamp; and his grandchildren Matthew, Melissa, Victoria, Ashleigh, Stacy, Kathryn and Kevin; Leilani's son Anthony Tillis and grandson Tyler; and his cousins Margie (Dave) Fetter of St. Augustine; George Brening of Florida; Jay (Verna) Brening and Richard (Judy) MacLean of Ohio; Jackie (Carl Belser) Damion of California; Christine King of Washington; and six nephews and four nieces.
The family extends its sincere appreciation to Hospice for their kindness to Ken and his wife through this difficult time. They would also like to thank the Monday and Friday night guys for helping Ken do what he loved.
