November 25, 2012, surrounded by his family. He was born in Taunton,
Massachusetts. He attended Boston University and served in the U.S.
Army in World War 2 as a First Lieutenant in the Medical
Administrative Corps. Following military service he enrolled at
Northwestern University and earned a Masters Degree in Hospital
Administration. He served as Administrative Assistant at Worcester
City Hospital, Worcester, Massachusetts and in 1950 moved to Florida
as a Hospital Consultant for the State of Florida. He supervised the
construction of Memorial Hospital, Hollywood and served as its
Administrator for 13 years. In 1965 he was appointed Executive
Director of Doctors Hospital, Coral Gables and retired after 20 years
of service. Mr. McAloon was very active in the allied medical field.
He served as President of the Florida Hospital Association and was a
member of its Board of Trustees for many years. He was a member of
the House of Delegates of the American Hospital Association and was
President of the South Florida Hospital Association on two different
occasions. He was a Member of the Board of Directors of Blue Cross of
Florida for 25 years. He held memberships in many other hospital,
civic, and professional organizations. He was a member of the Board
of Directors of Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Miami and
served two terms as President. He moved to Ponte Vedra Beach in 1989,
where he was a communicant at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic
Church.
He was predeceased by his loving wife of 55 years, Elizabeth Bell
McAloon and his son, Kevin J. McAloon. He is survived by daughter,
Margaret (Peggy) Klauk and her husband Fred, Ponte Vedra Beach,
Florida; two sons, Edward J. McAloon, M.D. and his wife Pam, Palm
Harbor, Florida, and Fr. Francis X. McAloon, S.J., Ph.D., Fordham
University, New York; two brothers, Henry McAloon, Ft. Lauderdale,
Florida and John McAloon, Taunton, Massachusetts; 6 grandchildren and
8 great-grandchildren.
A funeral mass will be celebrated by his son, Fr. Francis X. McAloon,
S.J., on the morning of Thursday, November 29, at 11:00 AM at Our Lady
Star of the Sea Catholic Church, Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. The
family will receive friends at the church one hour before mass.
