John Calvin Scott Jr, 86, of Jacksonville Beach, FL passed away on June 26th, 2015. He was born in Beckley, WV and attended Mt. Hope High School where he met his high school sweetheart, Mary, whom he later married in 1951. John graduated from West Virginia University with a degree in Mining Engineering and was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. After serving in the US Air Force in the Korean War, John and Mary moved to Ft. Pierce, FL where they raised four children.
He entered the Construction Field, later building swimming pools and in the early 70’s John moved his family to Jacksonville Beach. It was in 1977 that he Co-Founded and was Chairman of SurfSide Pools. John was so proud to work side by side with his family, building a very successful swimming pool business in North East Florida.
John’s greatest treasures and joys were boating, traveling in the motorhome and spending time with his family and friends. He will be remembered as a sweet, kind and honorable man who taught life lessons including caring for others, that hugging and kissing are important and that the Lord is our Savior. He will live in our hearts forever.
John is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary Gray Scott, son, John Calvin Scott III “Scotty”, daughters Julie Louise Scott, Mary-Gray Hollingsworth (Andy) and Beth Dudley Scott. Grandchildren, Tara Scott Shewey (Scot), John Calvin Scott IV “Johnny”, Miles Patrick Scott, Kaileigh Anne Hollingsworth and Andrew Scott Hollingsworth “Drew” and great grandchildren Grayson and Harper Shewey, sister Gigi Feazell of Amelia Island and a niece and two nephews. John is also survived by “Dozens of Cousins”.
A memorial service will be held in the Chapel at Beach United Methodist Church, Thursday, July 9th at 3:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Northeast Florida Community Hospice. Arrangements are under the direction of Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 1701 Beach Blvd., Jacksonville Beach, FL.
