Bill was born on July 27, 1926 in Belden, Mississippi to the late William Henry Vinson and Paralee Dillard Vinson. Bill graduated from Belden High School and Union University in Jackson, TN. He was a member of the “Greatest Generation” with service in Japan with the U.S. Army occupation forces.
Shortly after returning from Japan, Bill married Linda and moved to Jackson, TN to attend Union University. They were married for 68 years. After graduation, Bill joined Tennessee Pump and Supply Company and eventually became co-owner. Bill was active in the Jackson Rotary Club for years and was a Paul Harris Fellow but was best known for his faithfulness to his Lord as a Sunday School teacher and deacon. He was an active member of Malesus Baptist Church at the time of his death.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Ruth Whitten Vinson; grandson, Jim Vinson; and was the last surviving sibling of 12 children.
Bill is survived by his children, Judy Rice (David), Fred Vinson (Jane), and Susan Cupples (Don); grandchildren, Melody Kelly (Marc), Chris Rice (Tori), Jill Jackson, Lydia Smalley (Arron), Will Cupples (Kari), and ten great grandchildren.
He will be sorely missed for his love and incredible generosity.
The family will receive friends and loved ones beginning at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 28, 2022. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 4 p.m. at the South Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Ebenezer Cemetery in Malesus.
