Tommy was born in Bemis, TN, on February 6, 1938, to Hassie Carnell-Wyatt and Lester Wyatt, being their 4th of 5 children. He was a graduate of the J. B. Young High School, Lambuth College, and the Univ. of TN College of Medicine. His internship was served at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta. After a tour of duty as a Flight Surgeon in the US Air Force in Viet Nam and SE Asia he returned to Atlanta and did his Residency in Pediatrics at Emory University. He remained on the faculty of Emory University College of Medicine and did work at one of their neighborhood clinics for 3 years before opening his private pediatrics practice in Cobb County, GA.
He served on the staff of Egleston Children’s Hospital, Kennestone and Piedmont Hospitals. He served variously as Chief of Pediatrics for Kennestone Hospital and then for Promina WellStar Health System. He retired from the active practice of pediatrics in September, 2004, to care for his aging Mother.
Tommy was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Bettie Jean Roark, and his sister-in-law, Rosalyn Wyatt.
He is survived by his siblings: Kenneth “Buddy” (Doris) Wyatt, Charles Wyatt, and Linda Wyatt-Ladd (Robert), numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a special friend Robert (Gayle) Radford.
In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to a charity of choice. He was very fond of the Atlanta Union Mission, the Salvation Army and the Fellowship of Christians and Jews.
He wishes to thank all of you who have helped and inspired him along life’s journey and looks forward to that great homecoming in Heaven.
In keeping with Tommy’s wishes, a simple graveside service will be held on Wednesday, July 13, 2022 at 12 noon at Ridgecrest Cemetery with Rev. Walter German officiating.
