Robert “Bob” Rockhill McMahon, Jr., a devoted father, dedicated professional, and proud veteran, passed away peacefully on December 3, 2024, at the Tennessee State Veterans Home in Humboldt. He was 98 years old.
Born on June 14, 1926, in Cincinnati, Ohio, Bob grew up in a city he cherished throughout his life. He graduated from Withrow High School and attended Sampson University. Following his education, Bob answered the call of duty and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps, which later became the U.S. Air Force. During his service, he was stationed in Mobile, Alabama, and Salt Lake City, Utah.
In 1956, Bob began a distinguished career at Rockwell International, where he worked as a Standards Engineer. Through dedication and expertise, he rose to the role of Engineering Manager, contributing significantly to the company before retiring.
Bob was an active communicant of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, where his faith and fellowship were cornerstones of his life. A man of many talents, he found joy in building intricate ship models, painting, and exploring new places through travel. He was also an accomplished swimmer, a passion that began in high school and stayed with him throughout his life.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Robert McMahon, Sr., and Eileen McKenna McMahon; his first wife, Earla McMahon; and his second wife, Dixie McMahon; and his beloved sisters, Mary Lou Tornatore (Sam) of Dewitt, NY., and Jeanne Jones (Paul) of Oneida, NY.
He is survived by his loving sons, Michael McMahon (Julie) of Jackson, and Robert McMahon III (Chris) of Syracuse; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held to honor Bob’s life on Monday, December 9, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. The family will welcome friends and loved ones beginning at 9:00 a.m., one hour prior to the service.
Bob’s legacy of faith, service, and love for family and life’s simple joys will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
