During forty three years of service there, she was active in the Robert Carleton Sunday School class, the United Methodist Women, and other church activities. In those years, she was instrumental in organizing a group of church women to visit nursing home facilities bringing small gifts and cheer to patients.
She and her husband transferred their church membership to First United Methodist Church, Jackson in 2004.
While receiving treatment for Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma at Vanderbilt University Hospital in 1985 the physician in charge of her care, having noted her positive, expectant attitude, requested her to speak with other patients to encourage them in their treatment journey which she did with some success.
Peggy was a magnificent wife, a loving mother, and an inspiration to her children and grandchildren. The family is deeply grateful for her well-lived life and treasured memories that will live in their hearts.
The family wishes to express its deep gratitude to Hospice of West Tennessee and to private caregivers for their loving, tender care: leader Gwendolynn Newton, Debrah Scurlock, Genola Ross, Cynthia Arnold, and Genie Womack.
