James Curry, age 87, of Decaturville, Tennessee, passed away peacefully in his home on the morning of Wednesday, September 25, 2024, after a long hospitalization followed by a brief stay in a nursing home.
James was a proud veteran, having served 20 years in the United States Navy as an airplane mechanic. He was known for his dedication, expertise, and service to his country. After retiring from the Navy, James embraced life’s simple pleasures. He was an avid crappie fisherman, often spending long, peaceful hours by the water. At home, he cherished his time watching television with his favorite beverages—coffee and Coke Zero—always close by.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Mary Curry; his seven siblings, Evelyn, Thomas, Alice, Dannie, Betty Jean, Bobby, and John; his first wife, Donna (Tatsie) Curry; his son, Brandt Curry; and his second wife, Caroline Curry.
He is survived by his stepdaughter, Donna DeHoog; two grandsons, Jonathan and Hunter DeHoog; his niece, Patty Curry; and his close friends, Steve Kozbiel and Paul West. James also leaves behind many other loving friends who will remember him fondly for his kindness, humor, and unwavering spirit.
James’s life was defined by his love for his family, his country, and his community. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
A service to celebrate the life of James Curry will be held on Wednesday, October 2, 2024 at 1:00 pm in the North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons with Steve Kozbiel officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at noon, one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
