James Taylor Alexander, 87, of Jackson, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2025. He was born on March 8, 1937, in Scotts Hill, Tennessee, and lived a life defined by love, hard work, and faith.
James married Virginia Graham on May 25, 1957, and together they shared 61 years of marriage until her passing in 2018. Their deep bond and unwavering devotion to one another were evident to all who knew them. They were faithful members of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, then Hillcrest Baptist Church, where their faith and service touched many lives.
A skilled mechanic by trade, James dedicated his career to solving problems and helping others with his expertise. He was known for his quiet strength, dependability, and kind spirit.
In addition to his wife, James was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Carol Alexander.
He is survived by his children, Suzanne Alexander-Vaughn and Jonathan Alexander; his brother, Richard Alexander; and several nieces and nephews who will remember him with love and fondness.
A service to celebrate James’s life will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at 12 noon at the South Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons. Burial will follow in East Laurel Cemetery. Visitation with the family will begin at 10:00 a.m., two hours prior to the service.
In honor of James’s memory, his family invites all who knew and loved him to join in celebrating a life well lived and a legacy that will endure in the hearts of many.
