Helen Francis Chilton Smith

Helen was born on January 10, 1934 in Madison, TN to the late Ernest and Elizabeth Alley Chilton. She married Dr. Robert Joseph “Bob” Smith in 1960, and they had been married 55 years until his death in December of 2014. She was an active member of Skyline Church of Christ where she served as a food team leader. She served with her husband on medical mission trips to Panama where she was the cook for the teams.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Janet Barr.

She is survived by her four children, Joseph Martin Smith (Kimberly) of Jackson, TN, Julie Smith Gunnells (Erwin) of Murfreesboro, TN, James David Jones (Jane) of Little Rock, AR and George David Smith of Jackson, TN. She was the proud grandmother of eight grandchildren and great grandmother to three great granddaughters and two great grandsons. Helen is also survived by two sisters, Brenda Chilton Lyle and Dot Chilton Canter; her mother-in-law, Elizabeth Robbins Smith; two brothers-in-law, Jack A. Smith (Judy) and W. Jerry Smith (Ruth Ann).

Funeral services for Helen will be held on Monday, September 14, 2015 at 2 p.m. at Skyline Church of Christ with Jeff Brown and Sam Wylie officiating. Interment will follow in Ridgecrest Cemetery.

Visitation with the family will be held on Sunday, September 13, 2015 from 5-7 p.m. at the North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons.

The family has requested that memorials be directed to Skyline Church of Christ, Freed-Hardeman University, or the Robert J. Smith Developmental Disabilities Complex.
