Helen was born in Bemis, TN on March 15, 1931 to Dallas Johnson Halstead and Lonnie Millard Halstead. She attended Bemis schools and was Baptist in faith. Helen retired from Quaker Oats and later Walmart.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband of 49 years, Joe David Blackwell, Sr., son, David Blackwell, Jr.; granddaughters, Julie Blackwell and Amy Blackwell; grandson, Randy Keith Blackwell; daughter in laws, Barbara Diggs Blackwell and Sheree Dycus Blackwell.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Mary Helen Cepparulo (Edmond), Tim Blackwell (Julie), Lisa Gilliam, Sarah Crawford (Richard), Tina Meals (Philip), Jeana Hays (Steve), and Ronnie Blackwell (Tammy). Also, her lifelong sister and friend, Janette Stepp, and her sister in law, Shirley Blackwell.
Helen is also survived by 25 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren, and 7 great great grandchildren all of whom called her Mawmaw.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Tommy Ferguson, Jr., Vince Worley, Donald Gregory, Chris Worley, BJ Blackwell, Justin Blackwell, and Dakota Hays.
The family would like to express sincere gratitude to the nurses and doctors on the 7th floor at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital for their care and support and also to special family caregivers, Chris Worley and Tiffany Webb.
Arrangements for visitation will be at the South Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons Funeral Home on Friday, August 26, 2022 from 5-7 p.m. and also on Saturday, August 27, 2022 from 10-11 a.m. with services at 11 a.m. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Gardens. Bro. Ron Hale will officiate.
