She was born on February 26, 1926, in Henderson County, TN to parents Garrett Hobert Hendrix and Rosa B. Jackson. Darleen married Harry Murdock Little in 1943. Most of their married life was in Peoria, IL where their two children, Stan and Leslie, were born. Darleen was very active in her community, University Baptist Church, and Peoria Christian Center.
After Harry’s death in 1967, she married Wilfred (Bill) Theodore Springer in 1969 and moved to Baton Rouge, LA. Darleen was a faithful member of Broadmoor Baptist Church, teaching Sunday School, holding leadership positions in the Women’s Missionary Union, and became an ordained deacon. She was very active in the LSU Veterinary Wives organization. Darleen loved to sew, cook, garden, travel, study her Bible, play games, and spend time with her family. Darleen and Bill moved to Dallas in 2007 where she was very active at Highland Springs Senior Living Community. Darleen taught chair aerobics, held the Wii Bowling Championship title for several years, involved in nightly card game groups, attended First Baptist Plano, and enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s activities.
She is survived by her husband Bill; daughter Leslie Meil (Bart); daughter-in-law Toni Little; sister Bettie Jean Butler; sister Shirley Ann Blackwell; 4 grandchildren Austin Meil, Grace Meil, Terry Price and Kathleen Amano; and Brian Price.
A graveside service will be held Friday, August 11 at 10:00 a.m. at Highland Memorial Gardens in Jackson, TN.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the G. Hobert and Rosa Hendrix Endowed Scholarship Fund at Union University in Jackson, TN.
