John was born on February 7, 1948 in Jackson, TN, the son of the late Joe and Lucy Wingo Norvell. John attended Union University and was a member of the SAE Fraternity. Basketball was in his blood. His father was a winning coach and John played thru high school. He kept up with the church children thru attending their various games and served as announcer and score keeper for Gibson County High School and South Side High School in Jackson.
John was a longtime musician and pastor throughout the state of Tennessee and especially in West Tennessee. He and his beloved wife, Jane, and his two children, Bethany and Joseph sang in churches all over West Tennessee. John was also a member of the Tennessee Baptist Men's Chorale since it's inception.
John was a faithful member of First Baptist Church Bemis seeing the church through it’s many ups and downs. He has stood in as pastor, music director, youth leader, and various other positions throughout the years. John was always ready and willing to jump in and do whatever needed to be done for the Kingdom of God. He was faithful to his family and his church, both of which will miss him tremendously.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife, Jane Canada Norvell.
He is survived by his two children, Bethany Norvell Fewell (Bryan) and Joseph Norvell; and his two grandchildren, Elaina Hope Norvell and Adam Thomas Allen Norvell.
The family will receive friends on Thursday evening, August 10, 2023 from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm at First Baptist Church Bemis, 116 Bemis Lane, Jackson. Visitation will resume on Friday, August 11, 2023 from 10 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens.
