Bill was born on August 23, 1934 in Milledgeville, TN, the son of the late W.O. Ross, MD and Maddie Dickson Ross. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree at Lambuth College and his Master’s Degree at University of Mississippi. Bill was an educator with Jackson City Schools early in his career. He taught Chemistry and Physics at South Side High School. Later on he became a Stockbroker and Financial Planner starting with J.C. Bradford Co. and finishing with Morgan Stanley.
Bill was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Al Chymia Shrine Temple in Memphis. He held a lifetime membership and was former president of the Tennessee School Board Association, and was a former chairmain of the Madison County School Board.
Bill was the former president of the West Tennessee Healthcare Foundation. He and his wife, Anne, enjoyed volunteering at Camp Blue Bird. Bill and Ann were also members of All Saint’s Anglican Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Anne Truett Ross.
He is survived by his sister in law, Marie Truett Jones; a brother in law, Eddie Eugene Truett (Anne); and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his longtime, devoted caregivers, Mike and Kaye Waugh.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 25, 2023 from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. at the North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Fr. Chuck Filiatreau officiating. Burial will follow in Ridgecrest Cemetery
