Alan was born on November 9, 1938, in Louisville, Kentucky. He attended St. Agnes Grade School and St. Xavier High School. Before graduating from St. X, he earned his Eagle Scout Badge. After high school he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp (Oo-Rah!) from February 3, 1959, to September 3, 1962, where he played on the Marine Corp basketball team. While playing for the Marines, he was offered a basketball scholarship to Villanova University. He graduated from Villanova in 1965 with a degree in Education. While playing for the Villanova Wildcats, he earned a place on the “All Hatchet Team” for his physical style of play. Alan began his professional career with Reynolds Aluminum Company in 1965. This job started a successful, lifelong career in the aluminum industry, culminating in the founding of Volunteer Aluminum Corporation, a distributor of aluminum products.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Amos Lee Sallee and Anna Mae Pendergast Sallee; and his sister, Carol Sallee Fitzgerald.
Alan is survived by his devoted wife, Kathleen Schiffhauer Sallee, with whom he shared a life of love and partnership for 59 years. Together they raised seven children: Alan Lee Sallee, Jr. (Chana), Tara Sallee Moore (John), Shannon Sallee Arnold, Brian Patrick Sallee (Christy), Darren Michael Sallee, Deirdre Sallee Hatcher (Kevin), and Taylor Amos Sallee. Alan was a proud and loving grandfather to twelve grandchildren: Eric Arnold, Jr., Davis Sallee, Demi Sallee, Joelie Moore, Sarah Moore, Braden Sallee, Tyler Hatcher, Chloe Hatcher, Ella Sallee, Lucas Hatcher, Olivia Hatcher, and Liam Sallee. He is also remembered fondly by his nephew, James Lee Phillips (Michele), and their children, Patrick (Julia) and Molly.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Alan Sallee, Sr. will be celebrated on Monday, November 4, 2024, at 11:00 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the rosary will be prayed prior to the funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Ridgecrest Cemetery. The family will receive friends and loved ones at the North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons on Sunday afternoon, November 3, 2024, from 2-5 p.m.
Alan’s legacy of love, faith, and dedication to his family will live on in the hearts of those who knew and cherished him. May he rest in eternal peace.
