Bill was born in Shelby, MS on March 9th, 1928 to Janie Faison Toler and Clanton Davis Toler. She was a graduate of Moorhead Agriculture High School and attended Millsaps College in Jackson, MS. With her parents’ encouragement, Bill found a love for music, specifically the piano. She went on to major in music, and her lively boogie-woogie performances captivated her family and friends for years to come.
Professionally, Bill worked at Transunion Credit Union until her retirement over 25 years later. Bill invested in the people and community around her in Clinton, MS. She was a member of Clinton United Methodist Church for 45 years. Much like her personality, Bill’s relationship with Christ was steadfast. She was an active member of the Rasberry Sunday School class, and she poured her positivity and love into this community. Bill’s later years were spent at Sunnybrook Retirement Community, where she was able to enjoy every day with one of her best friends, Mae Helen Power, who also happened to be family.
She surrounded her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren with unconditional love. Her children knew that their home was open to friends, and Bill welcomed the opportunity to create childhood memories for them. She cherished her grandsons and knew exactly how to make them smile, whether that was cheering them on at a baseball game, eating a Dairy Queen treat, or watching in awe as the train cars raced by.
She was proceeded in death by her parents and two sisters, Jane Harpole of Moorhead, MS and Ellen Smith of Houston, Texas. Bill is survived by her two children, Dianne Hood Wallace and Clanton Toler Hood (Lisa). She is also survived by her two grandsons, Stephen Toler Hood (Briana) of Zachary, Louisiana and Seth Power Hood (Mary Katherine) of Madison, MS.
Bill was blessed with four great-grandchildren, Ruby, Gideon, and Grice Hood of Zachary, Louisiana and John Toler Hood of Madison, MS. She also leaves four dear nieces.
The family wishes to express loving and heartfelt gratitude to her caregiver, Evon Perkins, who lovingly cared for Bill in her later years of life.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Gideons International or Clinton United Methodist Church, Clinton, MS.
