Trina was born in Santurce, Puerto Rico on July 1, 1928, to the late Trinidad Cestero Pereles and Jose Pereles. A woman of great intellect, Trina attended the University of Puerto Rico at the age of 15.
She met a young Navy Sailor from Mississippi at a fair in 1953. Trina left her beloved Puerto Rico in 1954 when she married Clifton C. Ferguson, Jr and became a military wife. Together the couple raised five daughters.
Cliff’s 22 years of service in the United States Navy took the couple to several stateside duty stations, and overseas to Germany, Turkey, Italy, Guam, and Panama Canal Zone. Trina was the ideal military wife, strong, brave, and resilient. She often traveled alone with five daughters to join Cliff at his duty stations abroad. She loved the military life, adapting well to every culture and embraced every move as a wonderful family experience. Trina was a homemaker, never working outside the home.
After Cliff retired from the Navy in 1973, the family made their permanent home in Clinton, Mississippi. The family joined Northside Baptist Church where Trina served on several committees. She dearly loved her church and was most proud of serving on the committee who helped design the sanctuary.
Trina was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend to all. She was affectionately called ‘Nana’ by her grandchildren and all their friends. She was a godly woman who exhibited the love of Christ to everyone she met. Trina was an avid Atlanta Braves fan, loved crossword puzzles, reading a good book, and preparing meals for family gatherings.
Trina was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Clifton C. Ferguson, Jr., daughter Doreen Ferguson Bush, and son-in-law, David C. Cobb.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Edna Ferguson Davis (Mike), Trina Ferguson Cobb, Cheryl Ferguson Hales (Perry), Karen Ferguson Nolan (Greg), 14 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren.
