Robert L. Taylor, JR passed away on May 18, 2021. He was born in 1926 in Bryant, Mississippi to Robert L. and Marvel Taylor, SR. Robert proudly served his country during WWII on the Naval aircraft carrier the San Jacinto, where he served as medic and ran the medical lab. After his honorable discharge from duty, Robert attended and graduated from the University of Mississippi AKA "Ole Miss." While in College Robert played trumpet with his friend Mose` Allison an influential musician whose songs were a fusion of rustic blues and jazz. Robert went on to Loyola University School of Dentistry, Chicago College of Dental Surgery. After choosing not to remain in Chicago to complete several months to receive a medical degree, Robert returned to Jackson, Mississippi to establish a thriving dental practice. Robert soon began developing an interest in real estate as he continued his dental practice and ran an auto auction. He was successful in many business endeavors in his life. In his spare time, Robert renovated the old Watkins Mansion on North State St. Many friends and family enjoyed gatherings there. On the farm he enjoyed working out on the land on bulldozers or with cattle, or hunting and fishing.
Robert enjoyed helping other people along his journey be it advising in business, mentoring, charitable work in dentistry or creating rousing discussions on Bible prophecy. Robert accepted Jesus as a young child.
Robert JR as his mother called him was preceded in death by his parents Robert L. and Marvel Taylor SR, his brother, William W. Taylor and sister-in-law, Emily Taylor of Jackson, MS; two sisters; his first wife, Elsie Jean Taylor and his son, H. Marc Taylor, daughter-in-law, Suzy Taylor and grandchild, Julianne Taylor; niece, Mara Carol Kent.
He is survived in death by his second wife, Dianne Taylor, his son, Robert L. Taylor III; his son, William A. Taylor (Laura); his daughter, Teri Taylor Goettsche; grandson, John Taylor; granddaughters, Ellen Taylor, Katherine Taylor, Christina Taylor; great grandson, Noah Wagner; his brother, F. Joe Taylor and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Robert dearly loved his family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Billy Graham Ministries or IFCJ.
