Marcelle Gruber Milner died peacefully at her home on April 3, 2024, having recently celebrated her 100th birthday. Marcelle, better known as “Grand” by her family, was born February 27, 1924 in New Orleans, La. to Gladys and Marcel Montreuil. She attended Maryville College in St. Louis, Mo. and Saint Mary’s Dominican College in New Orleans, La. She married Edmund (Eddie) Leclere Gruber in 1947 after which the couple moved to Jackson.
Marcelle was a charter member of Saint Richard Catholic Church. She lived well and loved well, always putting her faith, family and friends first. Until recently, she enjoyed her Luncheon, Antique, and Garden Clubs. For years she was a volunteer for St. Dominic Hospital, the International Ballet Competition, and the Mississippi Museum of Art.
She is preceded in death by her husbands, Edmund L. Gruber and R. E. Dumas Milner, Sr., whom she married in 1982, her three siblings and two stepchildren. Survivors include her daughter, Leslie Gruber Bingham (Blair), two grandchildren Kimbell Waters and Blair Marie Taff (Ryder) and two great grandchildren Ryder Marie and Cavett Taff. Surviving stepchildren are Ruth Ann Carpenter and Rob Milner.
A mass will be held in the chapel at Lakewood Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 6011 Clinton Blvd. in Jackson on Sunday, April 7 at 3 o’clock, followed by her burial. Friends are invited to gather for a celebration in her memory at her home following the burial.
The family wishes to thank her caregivers who showed her loving care and endless devotion, Deborah Dixon, Johnnie Morris, Sandra Tims-Carlisle, Javonda Mangum, Shondelle Carmichael, Betty Magee, and Brenda Williams. Thanks also to the team at Accent Care Hospice.
