Funeral services will be held Monday May 16, 2011 at 12:30pm from the chapel of Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home High Street with visitation beginning an hour earlier. Family burial will be held in Lakewood Memorial Park at a later date.
Jeannette was born on September 20, 1921 in Brewton, Alabama and raised in Mobile, Alabama. Her deceased parents were Sylvester and Maude Koon, and she also had a sister Libby Wilson who is also deceased. She was popular in school and excelled as a student while graduating from Murphy High School a year ahead of her class. She then attended Business College until she met and married her late husband George Kirkland Maddox, Jr. After becoming the mother of two daughters, Jeannette moved with her husband Kirkland to Jackson, MS in 1951 to become the parents of another daughter and then a son. Jeannette was a loving and doting mother who dedicated most of her life to supporting the needs and goals of her family members. Meanwhile, Kirkland became one of AFLAC insurance leading representatives.
Jeannette will be remembered for the love and concern she routinely gave her family, for her belief in her Christian faith, and for her devotion to a tightly knit group which comprise her Woodland Hills Sunday School Class.
She also enjoyed traveling which she often did with the whole family, reading the Bible and modern day novels, dinning at Mobile and New Orleans seafood restaurants, and listing to a variety of swing music, especially by Jazz Clarinetist Pete Fountain.
Survivors include: daughter Judy Tackett Keith and her husband George, of Brandon, MS., grandson Gwin F. “Chip” Tackett II of Germantown, MD., granddaughter Julianne Rumalfsson of Hartville, MO. Daughter, Gale Eiland and her husband Aubrey of Ridgeland, MS., grandson Jody Hilbun of Son Valley Canton, MS., daughter Jen Maxey Sampson and her husband Steve of Jackson, MS., grandsons Chase and wife Martha Maxey of Philadelphia, PA, Kirkland Maxey of Jackson, MS., Son, Kirk Maddox III of Jackson, MS. She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren.
