Helen Ruoff Fleming, 90, died Thursday, September 29, 2011 at the Jackson Madison County Hospital in Jackson, TN. Services will be held on Monday, October 3, 2011 at 1:00p.m. in the Chapel of Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home on High Street with burial in Lakewood Memorial Park. Visitation will be Monday, October 3 beginning at 12:00p.m. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Fleming was born September 7, 1921 in Jackson, MS. She graduated from Central High School and Millsaps College. She married Edward Swayze Fleming of Minter City in Chicago on April 24, 1943 before he left to serve as a Naval Officer in World War II. She was active in the Methodist Church, an avid gardner and golfer.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Edward Swayze Fleming; parents, Sarah Wilson Ruoff and Henry Louis Ruoff; and a granddaughter, Suzanne Savery Barrier.
Helen is survived by her daughter Sarah Alice Savery and her husband Charles of Jackson, TN; two grandsons, Chad Savery and his wife Jodi of Fairhope, AL and Sam Savery and his wife, Janie of Bartlett, TN; grandson-in-law, Frederick Barrier and wife Rebecca of Indianola, MS; five great-grandchildren, Wesley Savery, Will Savery, Sarah Tucker Barrier, William Barrier and Logan Bishop; a sister, Mildred Ruoff Field of Centerville, MS; nephews, Louis Field of Vicksburg and Dr. Rusty Field of Baton Rouge, LA; a niece, Molly Field Stout of Houston, TX; and her family at Regency Retirement Village in Jackson, TN.
The families ask that memorial contributions be made to First United Methodist Church of Jackson, TN, American Cancer Society or to St. Jude’s Hospital for Children.
