Gale McGill Foster, age 82, of Thayer, Missouri passed away on Tuesday, December 5, 2023. Gale was born and raised in Harrisville, MS. In addition to her brother and sister, she was lovingly surrounded by an extended family of Aunts, Uncles and Cousins.
She played basketball while in High School. She married Robert Foster and they moved to Jackson where she had two daughters, Robin and Rhonda. Her love of sports continued as she and her husband went to many of the Ole Miss Rebels football games. She was much involved with her daughter’s activities, coaching Robin’s softball team and a band mother traveling to many band competitions with Rhonda. Later in life she enjoyed much good-natured ribbing with her nephew, Alton, who is an LSU fan. She was employed by Southern Farm Bureau Life Insurance Company as an internal auditor.
After her husband passed away, she began taking lessons on the bass guitar. She quickly excelled and her passion grew as did her music family. She was elected Treasurer of the George D. Hay Foundation. One of her many highlights was being chosen to travel to Nashville with her sister, Bonnie, to attend the Grand Ole Opry awards Ceremony on behalf of the foundation. She was also one of the recipients of the 2010 George D. Hay Hoedown Award.
One of her most favorite pastimes was being able to go back home to Mississippi to attend the family reunions and play with her family members in jam sessions, especially with her cousin Jay.
She enjoyed being with people and many of her doctors said that she was their favorite patient. She was beloved by all and will be missed. We love you!
Gale is survived by her daughters, Robin Goodwin (Greg), and Rhonda Baker (David).
Gale was preceded in death by her husband Robert T Foster; sister Bonnie M. Cohn and brother Jack D McGill.
A visitation for Gale will be held Monday, December 11, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Lakewood Funeral Home, followed by a celebration of life at 2:00 PM. Gale will be laid to rest in Lakewood Memorial Park.
