Charles, “Buddy” as he was known to family and close friends was born in Jackson, MS on September 17, 1931, to Ira and Alleen Hall. He grew up in Clinton, MS where he graduated from Clinton High School in 1950 before earning a degree in Physics from Mississippi College in May 1955.
Charles served in the Mississippi National Guard from 1948 until 1955. He married his wife of 69 years, Betty Shirley Hall in May of 1955. The newlyweds moved to Panama City, FL where Charles worked for the United States Navy’s Mine Defense Lab. In 1960, they moved to Decatur, AL when Charles’ career took him to NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center Astrionics Laboratory where he worked on Gemini, Apollo, and Hubble Space Telescope programs until his retirement in 1995. Charles was active in First Bible Church of Decatur serving as a Deacon and Elder and particularly enjoyed teaching Sunday School and Boy’s Brigade. In 1995, they moved to Huntsville, AL to be near their grandchildren. He was a member of Huntsville’s Calvary Bible Church where he served as a Deacon, youth Sunday School teacher and participated in AWANA.
Charles enjoyed football having played in high school and college, carpentry, camping and fishing, watching Mississippi State Football and his grandchildren’s activities but found great pleasure from his volunteer work with the Boy Scouts of America and school children at Challenger Elementary School and Whitesburg Christian Academy.
Charles was preceded in death by son Charles I. “Chuck” Hall, Jr., infant daughter Dianne Hall, parents Ira and Alleen Hall, siblings Gerald E. Hall and Martha Ellen Hall Junot. He is survived by his wife Betty S. Hall, their children Suzanne H. Norris (J.T), David K. Hall (Linda), Amy J. Hall, grandchildren Jessica Burkman (Brian), Oliver Norris, Benjamin Hall (Raine), Alexander Norris, great-granddaughters Lilah and Brinley Hall, sister Gladys Brock, and beloved nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Lakewood Memorial Gardens in Jackson, MS on August 30, 2024, at 9:30 a.m. with graveside services at 11:00 a.m. officiated by Dennis Daniels, FBC Clinton, MS. A Celebration of Life Memorial will be held in Huntsville at Calvary Bible Church on September 6 at 4:00 p.m. led by Byron Bradshaw, Sr. Pastor.
