Bill Butler, 87, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2018 surrounded by his beloved family. He was born on July 19, 1931 in Jones Co., MS to the late, Russell Patrick and Pellie Pitts Butler. He married Marie Harris on October 2, 1955 and they were married for over 60 years. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 21, 2018 from 12:00 to 2:00 pm at Lakewood Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 2:00 pm in the funeral home chapel followed by burial in Lakewood Memorial Park.
Bill was a honorable, kind and gentle man with an easy going personality. He served in the US Army in the Korean War where he was combat wounded on the front lines and received the Purple Heart. He was a Mason in the Scottish Rite and a member of the Exchange Club. Bill loved hunting, fishing, golf, playing pool, cards, and dominos with friends. He was a faithful member of Alta Woods Baptist Church. Bill was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Marie Butler; parents; 8 brothers and 3 sisters.
He is survived by his; son, Johnnie "Rusty" Russell Butler (Cathy Cooke Butler); daughter, Lisa Renee Butler Barnhill (Jerry Barnhill); sister, Lanelle Butler Moore; grandchildren, John Butler, Mallorie Butler Geraci (Steven), Ryan Barnhill, Kristen Barnhill; and many nieces and nephews.
