Mrs. Barbara Byrd Magoun, 78, passed away on Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at St. Catherine’s Village in Madison, MS. Visitation will be Sunday, April 17, 2016 from 2-4 at Lakewood Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 18, 2016 at 10 am at First United Methodist Church in Clinton, MS. Burial to follow at Lakewood Memorial Park. Barbara was born in Jackson, MS to the late William Aaron Byrd and Alma Saucier Byrd. She attended Millsaps College and graduated from Louisiana State University with a Bachelors Degree in English. She was a 50 year alumnus of Phi Mu sorority. Barbara was a veteran teacher of 27 years having taught English and Latin at Clinton High School. Barbara was involved in various community service organizations to include Friends of Quinsenberry Library, Le Bonte Service Organization , Natchez Trace Visitor Center volunteer, Docent for the Mississippi Govenor’s Mansion. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church and Grace Circle. She served on numerous leadership committees, service committees, Martha Ministries and Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed playing in various bridge clubs, crocheting and LSU football. She is preceded in death by her husband, Pete E. Magoun, III. She is survived by daughters, Deborah Rosenbaum (Dutch) and Elisabeth Noel (Mark); grandchildren, Neil Rosenbaum (Kelsey), Tatum Rosenbaum and Mitchell Noel. The family would like to express sincere gratitude to the staff at St. Catherine’s Village and the Fresenius Medical group and Dr. Gene Loper for their compassionate and loving care of our mother. Pallbearers are Mark Noel, Dutch Rosenbaum, Neil Rosenbaum, Bob Williams, Lee Rosenbaum, Mike Grove, Brian Barnett and Bill Burris.
