Mary Elizabeth Steen

Of Jackson, passed away at the age of 88 on Wednesday, August 4, 2021, under the compassionate care of her children and the staff at Garden Estates. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 50 years, John W. Steen; son, John M. Steen and her brother, David “Bill” Bruce. She is survived by her daughter, Sue Rodriguez and son, David Steen; six grandchildren, Corey (Joanne) Rodriguez, Chad Harris, Mike (Chelsey) Steen, Matt (Marlene) Steen; Katie (Adam) LeDuc and Sarah (Court) Verwey; nine great grandchildren; special friends, Sue Brown, Alvin Nelson, Margie Kuboff and Corrine Yabara. Mary was born in Jackson on June 23, 1933 to David and Bessie (Murphy) Bruce. She is a 1951 graduate of St. Mary’s High School. She was a photographer for S.S. Kreske then worked for Clark Equipment for many years before she was employed and retired after many years with the City of Jackson as billing supervisor of DPW. She enjoyed planting flowers, pulling your weeds and loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was always willing to help others when she was able to. She had a strong Faith in the Lord and attended St. Mary’s Star of the Sea Catholic Church. A funeral service will be held at Burden Funeral home (1806 E. Michigan Ave., Jackson, 49202) on Monday, August 9, 2021 at 1:30 p.m. The family will receive visitors from 11:30 a.m. until the time of service. Mary will be laid to rest beside her son and husband at St. John Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions to St. Mary’s Star of the Sea Catholic Church would be appreciated.
