He was born on April 16, 1928 and lived to the age of 90 years. Ken is survived by his wife, Margie Helen McClurg; his daughter, Karen A. Plumb; and his sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Min McClurg, Lynn and Patty McClurg, and Shawn and Sharon McClurg. In addition, he is survived by 13 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Ken was born in Jackson, Michigan and graduated from Jackson High School. He married Margie on November 9, 1947. They were both 19 years of age. Later, he entered a Masonry Trade apprenticeship program, eventually becoming a Journeyman Bricklayer. He worked on many buildings throughout Michigan and Jackson County. His private contracting business, Ken McClurg and Son, did numerous private chimneys, fireplaces, basements, and bricking homes. As a mason, he was skilled in laying fieldstone, brick, block, tile, and other detailed work. Ken was president of Bricklayers Local Union #15 for 20 years. He built two of the family’s Jackson homes where the family resided for years. A man of integrity, Ken taught his sons the value of hard work and a strong work ethic by taking them to work with him. He retired from full-time bricklaying at the age of 62 years. Ken enjoyed family, golfing, fishing, hunting, and collecting stones. He loved his goats, dogs, cats, and spending time with family. He was quick to find humor in life situations with a ready smile and an easy laugh. A patient man, Ken genuinely enjoyed people and was deeply committed to his wife and family. Ken was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, attending for many years. The family acknowledges with deep appreciation and gratitude, Shawn and Sharon McClurg and the home-care staff who spent the last year caregiving with diligence, compassion, and kindness.
