Of Jackson, passed away on Sunday, December 17, 2023, at the age of 76, while at her home and under the care of her family and Gentiva Hospice. She will be remembered by her children; Barbara (James) LaMere, Sherri (Tim) Temperato, Gary (Thea) Walters, and Mary (Shane - divorced) Fleming; grandchildren; Ashley (David) Gordon, Steven (Arianna) LaMere, Jayme-Lea (Greg) Finch, Jayme Fleming, Kierstin Fleming, Lola Fleming, Ethan Temperato, and Sydney Temperato. Janet was affectionately known as “Me-Maw'' by her seven great grandchildren. She also leaves behind her siblings; Bill (Arletta) Payne, Frank (Claire) Payne, Janet Raymond, Patty Raymond, Jesse Raymond, Susanna (James) Ellexson, and Penny Chrispins, as well as nieces, nephews, loving family members, and friends. Janet was born in Ludington, Michigan to George and Florence Payne, who have preceded her in death, as well as her foster parents; Elizabeth and Charles Raymond, and siblings; Dorothy Robb, Martha, Mary Raymond, Kathy Myers, and Diane Myers. Janet grew up around lots of loving family and friends as a child, which allowed her the opportunity to be blessed by so many. As an adolescent she loved camping and fishing with her family, which carried on into her adulthood. She loved sitting by a campfire roasting smores and enjoying the company of all. Janet graduated Cadillac High School in 1964. She enjoyed Detroit Tigers baseball games and spent many summers in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, making memories with her grandchildren. In Janet's work life she was a dental hygienist and did commercial cleaning. She was best known by her family and grandchildren for her famous homemade biscuits and gravy and pork chops and gravy. She enjoyed many summer days in her adult life grilling out with her children and grandchildren. There wasn't a day that went by that you wouldn't see her early in the morning having a Maxwell house coffee, talking to her sister Dorothy, and chatting about the latest antics Dorothy had been up to in Canada. I think if you asked her family what they learned the most from Janet, they would say, her stubbornness and strong will to make sure themselves and others around them were always treated with respect and dignity. She was extremely involved in the lives of her great grandchildren, whether it be by supporting school activities, dance, birthdays, Autism walks, births, and many holidays. They always knew they were loved by her. This was proved in her last months and days as she was surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren as she passed on to meet her loved ones who preceded her in death. She will be missed by so many and celebrated by so many as they carry on her legacy. A Celebration of Janet’s life will be held at Burden and Patience-Montgomery Funeral Home in Jackson, Michigan, on Friday, December 22, 2023, at 3:00 P.M. The family will receive friends for visitation from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM. According to her wishes, cremation will follow.
