Elaine was born on September 12, 1934, in Jackson, MI to the union of Willie and Georgia Smith. She was educated in the Jackson Public School System, graduating from Jackson High School. Later, she began a career with W.A. Foote Memorial Hospital (Henry Ford Allegiance Health). Elaine retired after 30+ years of service. She met and married the lover of her life, Robert McClelland. Elaine accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and united with the Second Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Rev. A.P. Williams. She faithfully served as Sunday School teacher and later was one of the first women trustees of the church. She served faithfully for over 20 years in this capacity until her passing. She was actively involved in the Michigan Chapter AARP, and being the lover of children that she was, she was on the Board of Directors for the Jackson Enrichment Exploration Exposure Project, Incorporation (JEEEP, Inc.) for 16 years. She supported JEEEP spiritually, physically, emotionally, and financially. The young men and women loved her. She helped financially to support a school in Ghana, West Africa under the umbrella of the Negro Business and Professional Women's Club, Inc. She enjoyed traveling to recreational establishments throughout the United States. She was blessed to travel abroad with JEEEP to Ghana, West Africa, South Africa, Egypt, and the Holy Land. On Wednesday, September 22, 2021, Elaine heard the Master's call and made the transition to her heavenly home. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. She leaves to cherish her memory sons Michael (Adella) and Daren (Jackie) McClelland; brothers Larrey, Bobby, Timothy (Lindy), Orlando Smith, and Carlos (Suzie) Glen; sister-in-law JoAnn (Albert) Harvey; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Home Going Services will be held at Second Baptist Church 304 Prospect Street, Jackson MI held on Friday, October 1, 2021 at 12:00 PM (NOON) with family hour at the church from 11:00 AM until time of service. She will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband Robert at Woodland Cemetery.

A family hour/visitation for Elaine will be held Friday, October 1, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Second Missionary Baptist Church, 304 E. Prospect Street, Jackson, Michigan, followed by a home going service at 12:00 PM.
