Allen Eugene Spiess Jr., age 73 of Jackson, MI passed away on Monday, November 14, 2022 at the Henry Ford Hospice Home with his loving family by his side, following a lengthy struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. Allen was born May 12, 1949 in Jackson, MI to Allen E. Spiess Sr. and Doris May (Kellogg) Spiess. He was the only son of five children. Allen graduated from Wauseon, Ohio High School in 1968 and returned to Jackson, where he worked at Kellogg Crankshaft Co., a family business started by his grandfather, Clarence Kellogg and father, Allen E. Spiess Sr. While working at Kellogg, he also attended Jackson Business College and obtained a business degree. He continued working at Kellogg Crankshaft Co. as owner and president retiring in 2007. Allen was very civic-minded serving on various boards including Ella Sharp Museum, Michigan Theater and others. He was also involved with the Cascades Humane Society and other community organizations. Allen enjoyed collecting antique clocks, having donated many of them to Ella Sharp Museum where there is a large collection on display. Before his retirement and after, Allen traveled the world visiting places in Europe, Asia, South America and others. He also enjoyed splitting this time between Jackson, MI and spending a portion of winter in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Allen was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Debra May Spiess and Penny Sue Schantz. He is survived by sisters, Linda Kay (DeWayne) Essex of Bryan, OH, Lonna Jo (Mike) Young of Maumee, OH, and Cindy Spiess-Malmstrom (John) Malmstrom of Kalamazoo, MI; special friend, Thomas J. Miller of Jackson, MI and a host of nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses and staff of the Henry Ford Hospice Home and Legacy Assisted Living (Legends Memory Care) for their impeccable care for Allen and the family. Private burial with family and close friends will be at Woodland Cemetery in Jackson, MI. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Allen’s name may be made to Ella Sharp Museum, Cascades Humane Society, Michigan Theater, Immanuel Lutheran Church or the charity of choice.
