She was born in Jeannette, PA on April 16, 1929, along with her twin sister Verda Faye, to parents Harry Webster and Iva Alwilda Loughner Haines.
She enjoyed many activities such as jigsaw puzzles, crocheting, sewing, golfing, bowling, flower gardening, making culinary delights, and traveling nationwide vigorously supporting the University of South Carolina football team.
One of her many talents included quilting, two of which won first place at the SC State Fair.
She loved living at the lake and in earlier years spending summers in the family cabin along the Allegheny River in Franklin, PA.
Playing games, especially dominoes with her grandchildren, became a regular pastime on the lakehouse veranda and sitting on the porch swing her father made.
She was a member of SC American Legion in Chapin, a lifetime member of Gamecock Alumni Club, and a member of Chapin United Methodist Church.
Verna is survived by son, John Hubich (Judy); daughter Kerri Hubich MacIntyre (Keith); grandchildren, Mark Sparrow (Angie), Jennifer Sparrow Byrnes (Jim), Mandy Hubich Smith (Aaron), Lindsey MacIntyre Lamb (Zack), Lauren MacIntyre Kassen (AJ) and Lisa MacIntyre Walker (Zach). In addition, she is survived by her great-grandchildren, Caitlyn, Chase, Mason Byrnes, Cora and Hoyt Sparrow, Charlotte Smith, Lilah Lamb, Hollyn and Kenna Kassen and Presley Walker.
Verna’s husband of 69 years, John Hubich and daughter, Joyce Hubich, preceded her in death.
A funeral service for Verna will be held Thursday, April 25, 2024 at 1:00 PM at Dunbar Funeral Home - Dutch Fork Chapel, 7600 Woodrow St, Irmo, South Carolina 29063, followed by a reception following the service.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Chapin Christian Community Church, 415 Lexington Avenue, Chapin, South Carolina 29036.
