Melissa Faith Nisbet, 25, of Irmo, SC sadly passed away on Thursday, March 23, 2023. Dunbar Funeral Home of Irmo, SC will be providing cremation. A memorial service will be held at the Bethel United Methodist Church, 6688 State Highway 269, Winnsboro, SC 29180, on Sunday, April 2, 2023 at 3pm.
Melissa graduated from Spring Hill High School on June 1, 2016 with an award in Exercise Science. She also earned the Extended Studies diploma for her many hours of volunteer work performed every year during her four years in high school. Melissa was a member of the Spring Hill High School Students in Action team whose mission was to identify needs, create solutions and multiply the good in the community. The team won the award for South Carolina and represented the state at the Jefferson Awards in Washington DC in June 2015. Melissa participated in the Spring Hill High School dance program in 10th and 11th grade performing in the high school auditorium and in Myrtle Beach. Spring Hill High School did not have a sports program, so Melissa played volleyball for Dutch Fork High School in 10th and 11th grades and played for Irmo High School her senior year. She also played club volleyball through high school, playing in tournaments around Columbia and in Charlotte and Myrtle Beach. Melissa attended Coker University in Hartsville, SC where she participated on the volleyball team. Melissa continued playing volleyball after college in tournaments in Columbia and Charleston, as well as recreational volleyball games around Columbia.
In Melissa’s younger years, before she found her passion for volleyball, she enjoyed participating in many activities and classes. She participated in Girl Scouts, baton, dance, modeling, gymnastics, theater and Junior Tennis League.
Melissa had a huge love for animals and worked for a time for a veterinarian. She was also a server at area restaurants to support her love of volleyball and her dogs, Rue and Maisy, who she loved immensely. She was adored by all of her co-workers who talked so highly of her. Melissa had a huge heart of gold and was always eager to help others, offering support and kind words. She had a kind and sweet personality and her beautiful soul will be remembered by all who came into contact with her. She loved her family and friends and was so thoughtful of others. Her kindness and sweet giving nature made her exceptional. We love and miss Melissa and she will live in our hearts forever and will never be forgotten.
Melissa was a member of Riverland Hills Baptist Church in Columbia, SC. Growing up she participated in Girls in Action, Awanas, children’s choir and Upward Basketball and Cheerleading. She enjoyed going to Sunday School and participated in field trips, church camps, Vacation Bible School and later volunteered with younger children at VBS as a teenager.
Melissa was predeceased by her maternal grandmother and grandfather, James and Mary Hudson, paternal grandfather, Stephen Nisbet, and uncle, Mark Nisbet. She is survived by her father and mother, Todd and Renee Nisbet of Surfside Beach, SC, brother, Michael Nisbet, of West Columbia, SC, grandmother, Norma Nisbet, of St. Joseph, Michigan, uncle and aunt, Harry and Kathy Kapple, of Jensen Beach, Fl, uncle and aunt Stephen and Chris Nisbet, of Surfside Beach, SC, uncle and aunt, Brian and Mary Nisbet, of Kirkland, WA . She is also survived by many cousins, who she adored.
